The Arab Open University (AOU) is a non-profit institution that aims to establish itself as one of the leading institutions of open and distance learning in the region. AOU is headquartered at Kuwait with branches in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Lebanon and Oman.
The basic mission of AOU is to offer affordable access to higher education and lifelong learning to a large and diverse population of students, particularly women and current employees.
In a multi-branch, as well as a multi-campus university like AOU, explicit well-defined and unified measures of exams, assignments and the approval of course final results are implemented in all branches.
The AOU's learning and teaching model is based on high quality learning materials, which, for the undergraduate programmes taught in English, are licensed from the UK Open University. The model is essentially a form of blended learning as local accreditation requirements insist on a compulsory face-to-face tuition component comprising 25% of student study hours.
AOU is subjected to local and international institutional accreditation and programme validation. In that, the AOU has to satisfy criteria stipulated by local authorities, as well as that stipulated by the Open University Validation Services (OUVS) and the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) of the United Kingdom.

OUM is the seventh private university in Malaysia. Although incorporated as a private university under the Private Higher Education Institutions Act 1996, the University leverages on the quality, prestige and capabilities of its strategic partners - a consortium of the 11 public universities. OUM adopts the motto "University for All" which is consistent with its philosophy on democratisation of education. This philosophy underlies the belief that education should be made available to all, regardless of time, place, age and social economic background. The open and distance learning (ODL) mode is specifically targeted at working adults who need to take care of their families as well as manage their careers while pursuing higher education. Under the able stewardship of the then founder and President/Vice-Chancellor, the late Tan Sri Dr. Abdullah Sanusi Ahmad, OUM has positioned itself as an alternative avenue for the public to gain quality tertiary and lifelong education.
As an open learning institution, OUM subscribes to the following principles:
- Flexible entry requirements to provide more opportunities for the members of the society to pursue their aspirations;

On 25th October 1985, Emirates flew its first routes out of Dubai with just two aircraft—a leased Boeing 737 and Airbus 300 B4. Then as now, our goal was quality, not quantity, and in the years since taking those first small steps onto the regional travel scene, Emirates has evolved into a globally influential travel and tourism conglomerate known the world over for our commitment to the highest standards of quality in every aspect of our business.
Though wholly owned by the Government of Dubai, Emirates has grown in scale and stature not through protectionism but through competition—competition with the ever-growing number of international carriers that take advantage of Dubai’s open-skies policy. Not only do we support that policy, but we see it as vital to maintaining our identity and our competitiveness. After making its initial start-up investment, the Government of Dubai saw fit to treat Emirates as a wholly independent business entity, and today we are thriving because of it. Our growth has never been lower than 20 per cent annually, and the airline has recorded an annual profit in every year since its third in operation.
Continuing our explosive growth while continually striving to provide the best service in the industry is the secret of Emirates’ success. The airline’s business includes: An award winning international cargo division ,A full-fledged destination management and leisure division ,An international ground-handler ,An airline IT developer. |
